Netanyahu once said they’re “a waste of time.” Previous Israeli officials called occupation and status quo conditions “permanent.”
Republican presidential aspirant Newt Gingrich calls Palestinians an “invented” people. Decades ago, former Israeli Prime Minister Golda Meir (a transplanted Ukrainian American) said:

“There is no such thing as a Palestinian people. It is not as if we came and threw them out and took their country. They didn’t exist….How can we return the occupied territories? There is nobody to return them to.”

No wonder Edward Said once called the occupation an “atrocity” and the peace process “a disheartening bloody impasse…..to reduce the Palestinian actuality to nil, to efface Palestinians as a people with legitimate rights, to render them alien in their own land.”
Israeli repression reached new extremes under Netanyahu. His government is Israel’s worst ever. He exceeds the worst of Ariel Sharon and previous hard-line leaders.
On December 25, Haaretz writer Barak Ravid headlined, “Netanyahu: Israel will not negotiate with Palestinians should Hamas join government,” saying:
Netanyahu vowed no talks if Fatah and Hamas unite for all Palestinians. In a speech at a conference for Israeli ambassadors, he said:

“If Hamas joins the Palestinian government, we will not hold negotiations with the Palestinian Authority….The peace process can only advance while maintaining security arrangements, which is becoming more difficult in light of the current situation in the region.”

In April, Hamas and Fatah announced reconciliation and plans for transitional government ahead of presidential and parliamentary elections within a year to produce unity. Currently, they’re set for May 2012.

Netanyahu reacted angrily saying, “choose between peace with Israel or peace with Hamas.” Reconciliation shows “weakness,” he added. “There cannot be peace” if both sides unite. “What happened….in Cairo is a tremendous blow to peace and a great victory for terrorism.”
Despite reservations on both sides, signing ceremony comments signaled hope. Abbas suggested turning a page, saying:

“Four black years have affected the interests of Palestinians. Now we meet to assert a unified will. Israel is using the Palestinian reconciliation as an excuse to evade (peace. It) must choose between peace and settlement.”

Hamas leader Khaled Mashaal said:

“Hamas was ready to pay any price for internal Palestinian reconciliation. The only battle of the Palestinians is against Israel. Our aim is to establish a free and completely sovereign Palestinian state on the West Bank and Gaza strip, whose capital is Jerusalem, without any settlers and without giving up a single inch of land and without giving up on the right of return.”

In mid-December, Abbas and Mashaal met again in Cairo after Hamas and Islamic Jihad announced Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO) membership plans.

They’ll form a committee ahead of next May’s presidential, parliamentary and Palestinian National Council (PLC) elections. Once held, they’ll join the PLO as sole legitimate Palestinian representative.

Russia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs responded supportively, saying “Moscow welcomes the serious talks between the Palestinian factions that aim to end Palestinian division.”

According to the Turkish Anatolian news agency, so did Ankara. It also praised Egypt’s sponsoring role.

On December 24, French Foreign Ministry spokesman Bernard Valero announced full support, saying:
“This is an important element for the unity of the future State of Palestine, and in that sense, this reconciliation is in Israel’s future interests.”

He added that reconciliation depends on Israel ending Gaza’s siege, as well as both sides denouncing violence and respecting past agreements.

During Bethlehem’s Christmas midnight mass, Latin Patriarch Fouad Twal called Palestinian self-determination the main thrust for achieving peace, adding:

“We ask for peace for the Palestinian people and for the Israeli people. We ask for peace, stability and security for the entire Middle East so that our children and their children may live their childhood in innocence, in a healthy environment where they may play together without fear or complex.”

Israel and Washington, of course, remain significant obstacles very much unresolved.
Unity Discussions Scheduled to Continue

In late January, unity discussions will continue to select transitional government members until elections. In February, Palestine’s parliament will resume operations.

At issue is Israel’s response. Elections in Gaza, the West Bank and East Jerusalem depend on cooperation. In 2005, Israel manipulated the process for Abbas.

Leading opposition figure Marwan Barghouti was imprisoned on bogus murder charges. In addition, Mustafa Barghouti’s candidacy was sabotaged for “demand(ing) total and complete reform, (ending all) form(s) of corruption, (and) mismanagement, and (working to) consolidate the rule of law.”

As a result, Israel arrested him while campaigning, expelled him from East Jerusalem, excluded him from Nablus and Gaza, harassed and intimidated him repeatedly, and effectively rigged the process for Abbas.

In 2012, Israel may either prevent Palestinian elections with Hamas candidates or sabotage them to assure Israeli-friendly officials only gain power.

Another obstacle involves registering Palestinians worldwide to participate and letting them vote in PLO mission offices. Doing so depends on cooperation from countries where they live.
The PNC will have 350 delegates, 150 from the Territories and 200 diaspora ones. PNC Chairman Salim Zanoun has his hands full. He heads a committee charged with making this possible. Doing so’s not easy. Nor is it for millions of occupied Palestinians or diaspora ones prevented from returning home.

According to the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics (PCBS), Palestinians worldwide number 11.22 million as of yearend 2011. About 4.23 million live in Palestine (including 1.6 million in Gaza), another 1.37 million in Israel, 4.99 million in Arab countries, and around 636,000 in other countries.
PCBS also said 44% of those in Palestine are refugees – 42% in the West Bank and 58% in Gaza. Numerous others live in Arab countries, notably Lebanon, Jordan and Syria.

Ultranationalist Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman’s extremism is also troubling. Repeatedly he said Israel won’t return to 1967 borders. Settlement expansions will continue, and doing so’s no obstacle to peace. In fact, they violate international law and obstruct any possibility of resolution.
Targeting Hamas at Israel’s Behest

Baseless accusations are Israel’s stock in trade. In January 1995, at its behest, the State Department duplicitously declared Hamas a Foreign Terrorist Organization.

Its emergence began after 1967. In the late 1970s, Israel offered financial aid to counterbalance PLO influence. During the first Intifada (1987 – 1993), it gained prominence. Israel remained supportive.
At issue was manipulating both sides to prevent peace. Like America, Israel needs enemies to justify conflict and violence. Hamas was chosen strategically to advance Palestinian divisions.

In Arabic, Hamas means courage and bravery. Since established, it’s resisted oppression and occupation. It prefers negotiation and international consensus, not violence.

However, its charter says it’ll fight for its rights if Israel prevents peaceful reconciliation. It rejects Zionist intentions to destroy Palestinian society, its values and “wipe out Islam.”

It calls itself “a humane movement, which cares for human rights and is committed to the tolerance inherent in Islam as regards attitudes towards other religions. It is only hostile to those who are hostile towards it….(Under Islam) it is possible for the members of the three religions: Islam, Christianity and Judaism to coexist in safety and security” as long as other religions “desist from struggling against Islam over sovereignty in this region.”

It wants peace, equity and justice for all Palestinians. It prefers negotiating on the basis of “hudnah” or temporary truce. It’s founder, Sheikh Ahmed Yassin, said Hamas would end its liberating struggle “if the Zionists ended their occupation of Palestinian territories and stopped killing Palestinian women, children and innocent civilians.”

It current leaders are willing to recognize Israel in return for self-determination in peace inside pre-1967 borders – 22% of historic Palestine. Moreover, numerous times it agreed to unilateral ceasefires in spite of repeated Israeli violations.

Nonetheless, it responses defensively after continued provocations. Washington and Israel call it “terrorism.” Under international law, it’s legitimate self-defense.

Besides being Palestine’s legitimate government, Hamas provides vital social services, including medical clinics, education, free meals for children, help for orphans, financial and technical assistance for homeless families, aid to refugees, special youth and sports clubs, and more as their resources allow.

It also maintains an elite military wing for self-defense, policing and security, the Izz Al-Din Al-Qassam Brigades.

It wants equitable peace and reconciliation. So do Arabs and Jews. Israel and its Washington paymaster/partner choose violence. That Gordian Knot remains to be cut.

Sudan has accused the Zionist entity of carrying out an air strike that killed two people in a car near the city of Port Sudan on Tuesday.

Foreign Minister Ali Ahmad Karti said one man was Sudanese, but the identity of the other passenger was unknown.

There has been no comment from the Zionist entity so far. But correspondents say ‘Israel’ believes the car was carrying weapons to be smuggled through the region to Gaza.

Karti said the air strike was an attempt to damage Sudan’s reputation.
It was intended to disrupt the process of removing Sudan from the list of states that sponsor terrorism, he added.

The car was hit about 15km (nine miles) south of Port Sudan on Tuesday.

There is confusion as to whether the car was hit by a plane, helicopters or a missile fired from outside Sudan.
Karti said one of the victims was an innocent civilian and efforts were being made to discover the identity of the second man.

“The attack was carried out by Israel. We are absolutely sure of this,” Karti was quoted as saying by AFP news agency.

So far no-one has claimed to have carried out the attack.

The car had been travelling into the city from the airport, one Sudanese official said.

“However, the Salafis’ ideology is more extreme than the ideology of the Muslim Brotherhood, for when it comes to “Israel” they do not want to see it on the map, but if they changed their minds, on the contrary, we’ll feel happy to talk with them,” he confirmed.

“The tension in Egypt is festering between two parties, the first is led by the army, which is the secular movement; and the second is led by those who claim that the army stole the revolution from them, and that it’s an extension of “Mubarak’s regime,” Yatom mentioned.

Moreover, some people alleged that the Islamists of the Muslim Brotherhood and the Salafi “al-Nour” Party have made a deal behind the scenes with the army, whereby in the event of winning the elections they will formulate the parliament and the future government, and in exchange the army will relinquish its office and will gain capacities that affects the political course in Egypt.

“I don’t know if this is true, yet I assume that these two parties will eventually clash; the army representing secularism and Muslim Brotherhood-Salafis representing the most extreme Islamic ideology, then a clash might take place. We should follow-up on the events of Egypt very closely,” he said.

South Sudanese President: “Israel” is the Role Model

The South Sudanese president, Salva Ki’ir expressed his excitement to set foot on the Promised Land, and said that the establishment of two states, “Israel” and South Sudan, is very similar, pointing to the great support provided by “Israel” to establish their state, and adding that he views “Israel” as a role model state.

It is an honor for me to sit down with Peres, for he is known by the successive generations. The history of your country has very much contributed in making your state very well-known around the world,” Ki’ir said.

An agreement was reached between South Sudan and “Israel” to send an “Israeli” delegation to South Sudan to inspect the situation there in order to develop plans to provide possible “Israeli” assistance to establish the infrastructure there and develop the country.

It is worth mentioning that the State of South Sudan, which received recognition
\by the United Nations as an independent country around six months ago, is of a Christian majority.

The consolidation of relations between “Israel” and this country falls within the “Israeli” efforts to form a front of Christian countries in Africa to defy the Islamic extremists whose strength is boosting in the north of this the continent.

South Sudan Approved to Absorb African Infiltrators to “Israel”

Knesset Member Danny Danon (Likud), who heads the Committee for Immigration, Absorption and Diaspora Affairs, said that “the state of South Sudan is ready to absorb 10 thousand infiltrators in “Israel”". Danon added that South Sudan has asked “Israel” to assist them in areas of infrastructure, communications and agriculture.

Danon revealed that South Sudan has agreed to absorb the African refugees who entered “Israel” from other African countries such as Eritrea, adding that since the establishment of the State of South Sudan half a year ago, 100 to 400 refugees southern Sudanese left “Israel” and returned to their homeland in exchange for $ 500 per capita paid by “Israel”.

He pointed out that “the readiness of South Sudan will help in reducing the number of African infiltrators to “Israel”, which according to the official data are nearly fifty thousand, many of whom came from Eritrea.

Danon described the approval of South Sudan to absorb infiltrators as a “great achievement”. He suggested that “the prison camp built to detain African refugees in “Israel” should be built in Africa instead, and “Israel” should grant a financial compensation to the State that agrees to set up the camp within its territory.”

He considered that “the cost of building such a prison camp in Africa is cheaper, plus it would pass a message to the infiltrators that, in all cases, they will not be able to stay in “Israel”, and Prime Minister (Netanyahu) seconded this idea but haven’t yet implemented it.”

On South Sudan, Danon stated, “I think the new nation should be strengthened, which is a Christian minority within a Muslim majority. Strengthening the cooperation with them on infiltrators benefits both sides; on one hand, they gain an economic advantage and on the other hand, “Israel” reduces the infiltrators into its territory”.

“Afghanistan’s High Peace Council, in a note to foreign missions, has set out ground rules for engaging the Taliban after Kabul grew concerned that the United States and Qatar, helped by Germany, had secretly agreed with the Taliban to open an office in the Qatari capital, Doha.

U.S. officials have held about half a dozen meetings mostly in Germany and Doha with representatives of Mullah Omar, leader of the Taliban’s Quetta Shura, this year to prepare the way for face-to-face talks between the group and the Afghan government…

The government would prefer such an office in either Saudi Arabia or Turkey, both of which it is close to, but was not averse to Doha as long as the authority of the Afghan state was not eroded and the office was only established for talks, officials said.

“We are saying Saudi or Turkey are preferable, we are not saying it has to be there only. The only condition is it should be in an Islamic country,” said a government official.

President Hamid Karzai’s administration recalled its ambassador from Doha last week, apparently angry that it had been kept in the dark about the latest round of contacts with the insurgent group.

Officials said Kabul was also deeply concerned about reports that the United States was considering the transfer of a small number of Afghan prisoners from Guantanamo Bay military prison to Doha as a prelude to the talks.

“We are a sovereign country, we have laws. How can you transfer our prisoners from one country to another. Already it’s a violation to have them in Guantanamo Bay,” the official said.

The Afghan government wanted the prisoners to be returned to its custody, the official said….”

“Today, we play active role in free international waters displaying the Islamic Republic of Iran’s strength,” stressed Sayyari while speaking at the scene of Velayat-90 naval drills underway in south of the country.

Terming the ongoing exercises as “successful,” Sayari noted that all naval forces are trying to significantly conduct the maneuver which will end on January 3.
Elaborating on the objectives of the war games, Sayyari said the navy will change its tactics in case of facing changes in threats.

According to the Iranian commander, the operational area begins in the Strait of Hormuz and includes waters in the Sea of Oman and free waters in the Indian Ocean up to Gulf of Aden.

Yesterday, Israeli Knesset committee members faced their Nuremberg Trail. They’re discussing MK Zahava Gal-On’s call that Israel should recognize Armenian genocide to punish its former bed-mate Turkey. Knesset speaker, Reuven Rivlin (Likud) has put his moral Jewish weight behind the call by saying that Jewish people who have suffered genocides in the past, must give moral support to other victims of genocides – with the exception of the Palestinian genocide at the hands of Israeli Jews, of course.

However, the foreign ministry has warned the Muslim-hating Zionist Jews that Israel’s possible recognition of Armenian genocide could lead to serious deterioration of Israel’s ties with Turkey and further isolate the Zionist regime in the world.

Kadima MK Otniel Schneller was the only member who opposed the call by saying: “We cannot disconnect the discussion from the fact that we must rehabilitate our ties with Turkey – it’s an existential necessity. We need to fit in the Middle East even if it is difficult“.

She had responded that to prevent genocide, the US should be prepared to alienate a powerful constituency (Israel) and by sending a protective military force to prevent another situation like Rwanda. Since then the Jewish media has blamed her for calling an American invasion of Israel. Smantha Power and her Jewish husband played a major role in demonizing Libyan leader Qaddafi for the so-called ‘human abuses’. Currently, both are repeating the same lies against Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.

It’s time for Turks to come out of their ‘Kemalist nationalism’ and expose the real mass murderers, the past Crypto Jewish Turk leadership, both in politics and the army. After bombing the oil-rich Muslim Libya to stone-age, Israel-Firster UK prime minisher, David Cameron, is aiming at military intevention in another war-torn African Muslim nation, Somalia. The country lies at the core of the Horn of Africa, the newly found oil/gas rich region. Somalia is located just miles away across the Red Sea from American assets – Saudi Arabia, Israel and Yemen.

Last month, David Cameron called Somalia a “failed state that directly threatens British interests.” David Cameron has scheduled a London summit in February to bring together the countries currently active in the Horn of Africa to discuss how to address the situation. Key decisions are expected to be made on a number of issues, ranging from humanitarian aid to a possible Libya-type NATO military mission.

­Earlier this week, the UK’s international development minister, Andrew Mitchell, called for “urgent action” in the impoverished country, as “Somalia is a very direct threat to the security of the United Kingdom”. Andrew Mitchell is a member of ‘Conservatives Friends of Israel’.

Washington has increased its covert war activities in Somalia including drone attacks. It’s running a Guantanamo Bay prison in Mogadishu where thousands of Somalis are being tortured. According to Associated Press, Washington has given $45-million in military equipment to Uganda and Burundi to fund their forces in Somalia plus $24-million to Kenya, which invaded southern Somalia this year.
“Yesterday it was slavery, then colonialism and now the dictators Obama, Cameroon and Sarkozy are attempting to colonize Africa again,” said Made’ Gueu during the American Embassy protest.
“There is a huge Somali community round here that I represent, most of whom are from the South, but not all. And they are not saying to me, ‘Please, intervene!’ They are saying,’Can we please have support to get a functioning system of government and peace in Somalia?,” says Jeremy Corbin, Labour MP and UK ‘Stop the War Coalition‘ activist.

Somalia has not a functional government since 1991. Washington has a long history of interventions in Somalia – from dictator Said Barre to the ‘Black Hawk Down‘, ‘Israeli Sea piracy‘, ‘Al-Qaeda‘ to ‘War on Terror‘.

In August 2010, Gwynne Dyer wrote: “The US decision in 2006 to send Ethiopian troops into Somalia was one of the stupidest moves in a very stupid decade. Alas, the United States panicked, or at least its intelligence agencies did. The mere word “Islamic” set off alarm bells in the Bush administration, which had the lamentable habit of shooting first and thinking later”.
